Inside Australia is a fascinating art installation of 51 carbonized abstracted steel figures in a remote part of Western Australia's Outback. It was installed in 2003 and spans over a 16 km2 area on Lake Ballard.

If you are in the area you can check out this unusual outdoor art installation and take some cool photos.

PICKING TIP

  • Take plenty of water with you!
  • Wear old shoes, the area can get really muddy
  • The best time to see the sculptures is either early morning or late afternoon, when the shadows of the figures are long.
  • You can visit Inside Australia as a day trip from Kalgoorlie. The drive takes about 2 hours.
  • Another option is to stay overnight at the designated free camping area at Lake Ballard. Witness an incredible night sky, unspoiled by light pollution!
  • Be mindful that camping spots are in high demand, especially during school holidays and extended weekends. It's crucial that you come prepared as there are no drinking water facilities, although toilets are available. Also make sure to bring enough food.
