When driving between Perth and Kalgoorlie on the Great Eastern Highway you will always notice a concrete water pipe on the road side. This historic water pipe was built because of the gold rush in the 1890s and the growing population in the desert. As the ground water in Kalgoorlie contains to much salt, drinking water needed to be transported from Perth to Kalgoorlie. The Mount Charlotte Reservoir is the end of the pipeline where the water is stored. It is a historic place and features also a nice lookout of Kalgoorlie.

PICKING TIP

Imagine us: Driving straight for more than 6 hours (590 kilometers or 370 miles) and always seeing the pipeline next to us – it made us wonder where this pipeline ends :)
