Best camping ground in nature to explore Tongariro National Park
We stayed at Whakapapa Holiday Park before hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, often referred to as New Zealand's best day hike which is absolutely accurate!
What we liked about the camping ground was the privacy of the camp sites surrounded by trees, the great clean facilities and the location. It was the perfect base for exploring Taranaki Falls and hiking the Alpine Crossing on the next day!
PICKING TIP
- Many trails nearby to explore
- Well-equipped shared kitchen, but make sure to put some layers on because it can get very cold in the common area
- The facilities are a bit older but very clean
- Hot showers, free Wifi
