Kuranda is a small mountain village with nice cafes, restaurants and shops (especially where you can buy opals). You can also do various walks around Kuranda to experience the rainforest.

The most popular way to get to Kuranda is taking the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway which was built 1891 and takes you from Cairns central train station directly to Kuranda.

PICKING TIP

If you don’t have a lot of time to visit the rainforest from Cairns, Kuranda is a good choice. Take the train from Cairns – it is a nice slow train ride up/down the mountains.
